From a small family business storefront on State Street in Jackson, Mississippi in 1965, Mary Grace and two of her children, Allison Simmons and Joel Brown, continue to strive to bring you the finest selection of art and the very best in framing solutions of all kinds.
Mary Grace Brown
In 1963, Mary Grace and James Brown purchased the equipment to open a frame business out of their home. In 1965, they opened a store on State Street in Jackson. Brown’s Fine Art has grown to become one of the premiere fine art galleries in the Southeast and a leader in the framing industry nationally. Mary Grace’s commitment to providing the very best quality and the highest level of customer service continues to be the driving force behind Brown’s ongoing success.
Joel grew up with his sister Allison, learning much of the gallery and framing business by ‘osmosis’ – by watching his mother and father at work in the gallery. Joel joined the family business at the age of 25 after earning his business degree from Millsaps College in 1988. He learned he had a natural sense for designing frame solutions and consulting with corporate clients. He placed art for Community Bank locations from Memphis to Florida. Joel also appraises art for individuals, businesses and estates. As a voracious reader, he especially enjoys the research involved with each appraisal. Like his entire family, Joel is an animal lover. He retired from the gallery in December, 2017.
Allison Brown Simmons
As a young girl, Allison recalls growing up around the gallery and frame shop. When she and her brother, Joel, weren’t getting treats at Campbell’s Bakery they were watching the framer in the shop. Allison studied business at Mississippi State University before starting work at the family’s gallery in 1984. She began in the shop putting pictures into frames. She watched her mother involved in all aspects of the business and soon learned the art of framing design. Allison is an avid runner and reader. She has also been known to bring in to the gallery the occasional lost cat or two.
Elise joined Brown’s almost 20 years ago after serving 12 years at the Mississippi Museum of Art in a number of positions including Chief Curator. At Brown’s, she has enjoyed meeting and working with clients and striving to find just the right work of art or the perfect framing solution. In addition to art, her other great love is dance – everything from Celtic to modern to ballet. She is a long time member of the Jackson Irish Dancers.
Many throughout the metro Jackson area and across the state know Mike Nunnery for his experienced eye at selecting the perfect frame and mat for their artwork as well as finding just the right painting for their home and office.
