Peyton Hutchinson graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and then went on to get her BFA from the University of Mississippi. Her passion for painting en plein air took her studies to Aix-en-Provence, France and the Tuscany region of Italy.

She applies the paint to her canvases with consistently choppy strokes from her palette knife and wide brushes. Her landscape paintings are organized into distinct horizontal and vertical planes that appear abstract up close but turn into beautifully composed scenes from afar. Whether the subject is a still life or a large landscape, Peyton allows vivid color and texture to overwhelm her canvases.

Peyton's newest work at Brown's was inspired by autumn scenes off of Mississippi's Natchez Trace. Inspiration from her studies abroad still lingers in her landscape paintings, as she transfers the timelessness of the European countryside into this series of paintings that is set in one of Mississippi’s most historic landmarks.
