About her work, Vicki states: "I can't remember a time when I wasn't creative in one way or another but exposure to transparent watercolors during high school and college sent me into a specific direction to become a "Painter". That journey progresses while I continue to learn. I paint a variety of subject matter but lean toward boats/water scenes. The stronger the contrasts and brighter the colors, the more interesting it is to me. Where I once observed a scene or photo and thought "that would make a great paniting", now I am more likely to think "how can i make that a great painting". I would like to think that is progress."
Born in Louisiana, I have spent most of my life in Jackson. I earned a degree in art at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, under the tutelage of Dr. Sam Gore. Certainly a highlight of my painting years has been a solo show at Mississippi College in January of 2015. A professional career in the graphic arts industry influenced the realism in my paintings and contributed to the improvement in drawing skills. In recent years, I have taken workshops from various artist, including Wyatt Waters, Judi Betts, and Alvaro Castagnet. I have always admired works of Jackson artists Ann Barron and Eleanor Hughes. I hope that my work shows the influence of time spent with these talented artists.
