Brian Wilson, born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota and currently living in Laurel, Mississippi has had a career as a graphic designer and art director and although from the north he has spent his adult life in the south creating commercial art along with his fine art endeavors while living in Florida, Alabama, and New Orleans. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a BFA, his paintings have been included in numerous galleries, festivals, and exhibits throughout the country.
Brian primarily works with mixed media as well as painting colorful hard-edge acrylic paintings, two styles and genres far removed from one another, both from opposite poles, from one extreme to another. Having understood what Picasso meant when he said, "I was able to paint like Raphael at the age of twelve, but it's taken me a lifetime to paint like a child...", Brian has successfully explored and approached his mixed media paintings in the way that a child might approach art, but with much more clarity and composition and his mixed media paintings are characterized by rich texture.
"I've always been fascinated by how a child makes art. Totally uneducated and unschooled, they always seem to create something pure from out of their heart and through their imagination and the innocent honesty of their art shows in what they produce. That's what I try to do with my mixed media work. Painted hearts and faces that jump out to draw the viewer into the painting, allowing them to draw their own conclusions as to what the painting might mean or be about. It's all about personal interpretation. There is no recipe card or set formula to follow. I just let the process of doing the painting lead to it's outcome."
Brian's work is included in a number of private and corporate collections.
